Earls Colne
Earls
colne is a beautiful village nestling in the Colne Valley in the north
of Essex. Named after the River Colne which flows through the valley
below, it is a historic village,with a
church
dating from the 13th century and many houses built in the 17th and 18th
century.
To experience the history of the village and get some exercise at the same time why not walk The "House Detectives" Trail a wonderful walk around the village with information about the villages historic buildings.
Surrounded by the Essex countryside, Earls Colne is an ideal base from which to explore the area. There There are many footpaths and traffic free country roads which are ideal for cycling and walking.
Nearby
Chalkney Wood is wonderful for walking (No
cycling allowed unfortunately). There are two parking areas, both off
Tey Road one is well signposted but if you continue past this one and
follow the road as it bears left and then uphill, you will come to another
parking area on the left.
Chalkney wood can be pretty muddy during the winter months so I would recommend using the second car park so you should remain relatively mud free!
Earls
Colne has a minor shopping centre with a number of shops and services situated in
the High Street which include a library, Hardware store, cafe, supermarket, post office, hairdressers, butchers,
